Biography

Sound designer, Soundscapist, Pianist and Teacher, Pietro Bonanno was born in Palermo (Sicily) where he graduated in piano with the highest marks in the class of Maestro Renato Giarrizzo and where he got a MA with honors and honorable mention in Electronic Music in the class of Maestro Giuseppe Rapisarda and Maestro Emanuele Casale. He perfected his classical and composing studies with Mauro Castellano, Giovanni Damiani, Federico Incardona, playing in Giovanni Sollima Band and teaching Piano and Theory in the local ISME district (Centro Musicale Palermo). Since 2002 he is interested in electroacustic composition, specially in soundscape studies, approaching in these years the subject under many aspects, in particular the ecological and the multimedia ones; he followed the masterclasses of Gabriel Maldonado on Csound AV and took part in workshops on the soundscape held by Francisco Lopez, Yasuhiro Morinaga, Xabier Erkizia, Xavier Balderas and Marc Behrens and he worked for Ars Nova Organization as expert of the subject. In 2013 he founded with Fabio R. Lattuca the VacuaMoenia association, with the intent of study abandoned sicilian soundscape. Vacuamoenia in these years partecipated at FKL Hearing the Pot symposium (Oberhausen DE, 2013), Nuit Blanche 2014 (Paris FR, 2014), SAE Meeting (University of Kent, UK) and the work 23pg12rl12 was selected in the “Sound at Work” release for Temporeale (Firenze, IT). As founder of Reverberant Evenings, his interested is projected in sound textures creation. These textures have to be static but in the same time dynamic in the internal movement of the structure and the listening of these is quiet, deep and far from the analitic approach of the contemporary aesthetic. With RE he released for txtrecordings and in auto-production and the textures are present in many films from the following directors: Igor D’India, Baldwin Li, Auguszt Oliver, Robert French, Anthony Dhinham and Emmanuel Gras. As acoustic composer, his interest was that of solo piano music. After the auto-producted releases in the early years of 2000, he recently released different works; Komorebi was part of the installation of Fiona Candy “Making Presence Felt” presented in Northampton (UK) in 2015. In the last years he worked as Sound Designer for Gammamusica, a sicilian label that produces Classical and Baroque music and since 2014 he teaches in Music High School “Regina Margherita” the subject “music technologies”.
